We bought some Mason jars last year when I was attempting my first (really bad) go of canning. I don't remember how much they were, I just know that I can't spend money on anymore right now. I remembered last year hearing about a family in our ward that had moved and left a ton of empty jars at a lady's house. So I took my chances and made the call this morning to see if by chance she still had any jars I could have. Whaddaya know - I am now the proud owner of 50 free mason jars. Here are some other ways to save money on jars:
- check out DI and Salvation Army
-homemade food swaps with friends. Loaf of bread for jar of jam or pickles.
-share jars with a friend or relative. After you have made whatever you are making, trade jars of goodies and then you both can keep the jars.
Just remember to sterilize them before putting any new foods in them.
