I am in love with the SmittenKitchen.com. She has some brilliant recipes that look so good! So naturally I went to Miss Smitten Kitchen to find a recipe for a much devoured breakfast item. Pop Tarts.
In order to attempt to save money, I wanted to try making snacks that we spend a good amount of money on. So here is treat #1: (sorry - pictures are backwards - but you get the idea!)z
After rolling out the dough pretty darn thin and building up those muscles in your arms, brush the eggwash (1 egg, beaten) on the bottom piece. Put about 2 tbls of the filling, place the top pastry on and use a fork around the edges to keep it together.
The filling I used was homemade strawberry jam and 1 tbls cornstarch mixed in 1 tbls water to keep it from getting too runny.
The dough was really easy to make so long as you follow the directions! Find the perfection recipe here: http://smittenkitchen.com/2010/04/homemade-pop-tarts/
My family LOVED these and I can tell you know, I won't be wasting money on store bought pastries anymore.
these look waaay better than the ones I made.
